Prayer, Fellowship and Discipleship

After church refreshments – tea, coffee and squash is served after each 10am
service, and many people stay on after services to talk with each other – sometimes for
up to an hour. Coffee is also served after the 8.45 service on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.

Area groups – regular church members are linked to one of four area groups which
meet to encourage and support one another. Each group decides on its own pattern
of activities, which often include times of prayer, Bible study and social events.
From time to time Area groups also take on practical tasks or agree to lead particular
services. To be linked with a group please contact a member of the clergy or a church
warden, who will be able to suggest which one might suit you best.

Time for Prayer – on the second Saturday of each month people meet at church to spend an hour in prayer from 9.30am. All are welcome to turn up! Breakfast is also shared beforehand (from about 9.00am).

Mothers Union – everyone (men and women, with or without children) is welcome to join this group which meets at 1.45pm on the second Monday of each month for a short service followed by a speaker or discussion. To find out more contact Dorothy through the Parish Office.

Parish Weekend – about once very two years many church members go away for a
weekend together – usually at Sneaton Castle, Whitby. It is time to worship, pray, learn
from speakers and have fun, getting to know each other better. We last went away in
March 2014, when we were joined by Stephen Cherry as our guest speaker and by the
new Bishop of Durham, Paul Butler and his wife Rosemary.

During Lent, Advent and at other times St. John’s often runs series of talks and
discussion groups. We also hold bring-and-share lunches from time to time on
Sundays, when church members can spend time with each other.
