St. John’s employs a part-time youth worker (Lexie Thorpe) to co-ordinate our activities for young people and to offer individual pastoral support to our younger church members.
Sunday services – Groups for young people meet during the 10 am services on
Sundays. Little Fishes acts as a crèche for those aged 0-24 months; Funky Monkeys
has activities for 2-4 year olds; John’s Juniors is for those aged 5-10 and Think Tank
is for 11-14 year olds. Our young people also form the core of our music group at the 10 am
Messy Church – Activities, stories, worship and food on a Sunday afternoon for young families – and those of all ages! This takes place every one or two months – see the Diary for the next date. Many come along who are not regulars at our Sunday services, but find the time and approach is more relaxed for their family. For more information contact Joan through the Parish Office.
SPLAT! is a new venture for secondary school aged young people, meeting in the Scout Hut behind St. John’s, at the same times and dates as Messy Church. The event is quite informal, with activities including stop-motion animation, craft, games, discussion and baking. SPLAT is not particularly aimed towards regular churchgoers, and young people are more than welcome to bring their friends. SPLAT leaders and members have their own private chat channels on the St John’s SLACK page
LOL – LOL is a collaborative venture between St. John’s and Kings Church. LOL
provides Christian activities for young people from across Durham. For more
information contact Tim or Kat through the Parish Office.
