MIDWEEK ACTIVITIES
All our groups and activities welcome newcomers and visitors. For up-to-date details of what is happening and when download the latest news-sheet or contact the Parish Office. What follows is just a brief guide. For all Small Groups. For 2011 we are embarking on our long-awaited plan of forming new "Small Groups", to encourage and enable the life, faith and growth of St John's. To see the initial letter click here, and for more details email Groups@sjnx.org.uk. The Mothers’ Union, despite its name, welcomes everyone and meets on the second Monday of the month at 1.45pm, with a short service followed by a speaker or discussion. Early Prayer is held in the church centre on the second Saturday of the month. We offer personal prayer after the 10am service each week. If you have come to church with a concern or need, go to the Afterprayer point after the service and someone will pray with you. The Book Group meets bi-monthly for an interesting, informal discussion with refreshments, about a selected book. For details of the next meeting (and a calendar of other events) go to the News and Events page and click on Future Calendar. For young people We have a full and active ministry to children and young people, some of which is shared with other churches. Most groups are term-time only, and this is just the bare bones. Contact us to find out more. Little Fishes (0-24 months), Funky Monkeys (2-4 years), John’s Juniors (5-10) and Think Tank (11-14) are the alternative to staying in church, and meet during the 10am service on Sundays, usually starting and finishing in the church service. Edge is a service run by young people, through LOL, the youth ministry we share with other Durham churches. It's usually on the second Sunday of the month, 7.00 to 9.00pm, and venues vary. ‘Loud music in a quiet church!’. Click here to open a new window on LOL's own website. Super6 is an after-school club which meets for one term a year, usually in the church centre on Thursday afternoons at 3.45pm, and is especially for those in Year 6. Dive meets at 7pm on Monday evenings in Antioch House, with fun, games and a look at God for Years 7 and 8. Deeper (14-18) meets on Wednesdays at 7 - 9pm in the church centre for fun and serious stuff as well. Play People is not a church-run group, but is a friendly meeting place for parents, carers and up-to-5s, in the church centre every Tuesday 9.30 - 11.30am in term-time. There is a small charge per family, which includes refreshments. There is also a Twins Club which meets every Monday (including during school holidays), 9.30 - 11.30am, also in the church centre. |
