Welcome to St John’s

Hello, and welcome to St John’s, Neville’s Cross church website.  We say that at a time when, in common with churches across the country, we are unable to welcome you to Sunday services or other events where we gather together.  Nevertheless, you are warmly welcomed to our church community, which continues in various other forms at this time.  This includes email and video, conference calls and community bulletins.  We continue to explore the best ways in which we can support each other as a faith community; and also participate in wider community efforts in Durham and our parish at this time.

Please explore different resources on this website as they become available; and if you require any further information, or would like to be kept up to date with email, please contact our Parish Office on 0191 384 2433, or via parish.smxg.sjnx@gmail.com.

A prayer from the Church of England, for all those affected by coronavirus.

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy.
Sustain and support the anxious,
be with those who care for the sick,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may find comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

PRAYERS AND READINGS FOR THIS SUNDAY: PALM SUNDAY – 5th April

Collect (Prayer of the Week)

Almighty and everlasting God, who in your tender love towards the human race sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ to take upon him our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross: grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Alternative Collect

True and humble king, hailed by the crowd as Messiah: grant us the faith to know you and love you, that we may be found beside you on the way of the cross, which is the path of glory.
